During the past 25 years I have founded many projects which have resulted in a continually expanding network of amazing composers, performers, musical organizations and creative collaborators. From my own experience it seems that the high value placed on communication, personal experience, content, and commitment to long-term relationships has been the thread which has run through them all.

Billband

A group of all-star musicians assembled to perform the music of Bill Ryan. Founded in 2004, its players are equally comfortable in the classical, jazz, and popular worlds where the music they perform traverses.

GVSU New Music Ensemble (2006-current)

A chamber ensemble at Grand Valley State University focusing on music composed during the last twenty years, as well as earlier landmark works. Numerous performances on and off campus each year, an annual commissioning program, regular collaborations with dance, film, painters and other artists, three commercial recordings.

SCCC Contemporary Music Ensemble (2000-05)

A student ensemble at Suffolk County Community College that specialized in 20th and 21st century classical music. Commissioned and premiered work by such notables as Evan Ziporyn, David Lang, and Phil Kline.

Concert Series

Free Play (2005-current)

A concert series featuring innovative performers and composers of our time, hosted by Grand Valley State University. Each concert is the culmination of a residency where the artists lead workshops, masterclasses, and guest lectures throughout the campus and community. 38 events to date.

Open Ears (1997-2005)

A concert series hosted by Suffolk County Community College that brought innovative performers and composers to campus. Over its eight year existence the series presented thirty concerts and won three ASCAP/Chamber Music America Adventurous Programming Awards. Featured artists included Julia Wolfe, So Percussion, Lisa Moore, Talujon, David Lang, Michael Gordon, Todd Reynolds, and Prism.
