Launch was commissioned by the Sullivan Dance/Theatre Project and was premiered as part of the dance work I by the choreographer Amy Yopp Sullivan. The work centers around the idea of the mothering process and what it means from the perspectives of grandmothers, mothers, and daughters.

Launch was used for the last part of the dance work. This section is about the moment when a child has grown and must leave, or take flight. It is an
incredibly bittersweet moment for the mother, for if she has done her job successfully, the child will truly soar away.

Launch is dedicated to my own mother, who was killed in an automobile accident a few months after watching its premiere. She was an incredible artist and mother who supported my work religiously.
